I have a short post to share as I move on from the Phillies magical World Series run that ended Saturday with a loss to the Astros. It ties in with the Phillies as it was my favorite walk-up song from the team this season.
Walk-up songs are one of the unique and fun things about home baseball games where players select the brief part of a song they want played as they walk up to the plate.
When Chris and I used to go to Phillies games I knew almost all the players’ walk-up songs and still love Chase Utley’s which was Led Zepplin’s Kashmir and Chooch’s which was Phil Collins “In the Air Tonight” (cue the air drums).
Anyway back to the 2022 Phillies. My favorite walk up song this season was Bryson Stott’s “A-Ok” by Tai Verdes. I apologize if this songs gets stuck in your head but it’s such a feel good song that you can’t help but smile and relax when you hear it.
My favorite lyrics are part of the chorus “When I see trouble come my way, I be makin lemonade. I know I’ll be A-O, A-Ok.”
I have almost adopted this as a mantra since my obession with this song has coincided with my return to work. “I know I’ll be a-o, a-ok.” I’ve been through a lot worse this past year than returning to a new position at work. So I need to keep reminding myself I’ll be a-o, a-ok.
Even though I’ve been given an awful lot of lemons this past year, I did my best to make some damn good lemonade out of all the sour shit I was dealt. I had to focus on taking care of myself and doing whatever the doctors asked of me to ensure I’ll be a-o, a-ok.
Another favorite part of this song is the following lyrics:
“Been out in the real world, don’t like how it’s tasting. Let me change your mind with my little saying. Two-four-six-eight who do we appreciate. Pour some sugar in my water cause we making Minute Maid. F*%# to all the hate, do a shimmy-shay, throw a middle finger to down the inner state.”
Now I’m not encouraging giving the bird to anyone but it’s basically a message to ignore the haters. Don’t worry about what everyone else is doing and just throw that hate away.
It’s something I know I need to work on. I just need to ignore all the stuff I let bother me including who took my position and just make my own Minute Maid because the rest doesn’t matter.
This song is so good for this Monday as it puts me in such a good mood especially after the rough endings to both the Phillies and Union seasons ending with losses in championships on Saturday. Now those things aren’t nearly as big as a return to work following a cancer battle or a return to work in a new role which you were given only because you were out battling cancer. But the losses were disappointing as huge Philly sports fans.
So I’m going to just take on this new job and make the best damn lemonade you’ve ever had because it’s gonna be A-O, A-Ok.
