When you’ve been through all I have in the past year, you have to try and find humor when you can. It helps get you through all the not so fun stuff. And that’s what I’ve tried to do. I had some “fun” before my recent surgery that gave Chris and I a good laugh.
As I changed into my gown and got my surgical socks on I was left with a pair of surgical underwear. After giving birth we all know how sexy those mesh undies are but they are so useful and comfy for the huge pads we have to wear. This surgical underwear was not comfortable and was just odd.
If there’s one thing that should not be one size fits all, it’s underwear. I don’t have curves so this underwear fit like a thong. I couldn’t even figure out which was the front or the back. Either way, I was laughing because I was seemingly wearing a thong for surgery.
The doctor had a previous surgery that ran late so Chris and I sat awhile waiting. I had my gown, surgical socks and thong on. My legs grew very uncomfortable in the chair so I would lift them up hoping a change of position would relieve the discomfort. In lifting up my legs Chris starting laughing as he was seated across from me and I was giving him a full moon and that was not what he expected to see. I then explained the surgical underwear. And we laughed.
Thankfully for your sake and mine, there are no pictures to share. The underwear gave us a good laugh and funny story to share because you have to find the humor in life. It doesn’t hurt to be cheeky (see what I did there)every now and then. Especially if it breaks the tension in stressful moments and that’s exactly what the not so sexy surgical underwear did.
