With the start of the baseball season finally here, I thought it’s a good time to share, and credit goes to our self-dubbed “man of honor” Matt’s wedding toast about the start of our relationship, and I’ll add how it grew into the beautiful family we have today.
While our “first” date after college was meeting up at a Starbucks, our first “official” date was to a Phillies game. I was so excited to go to game as I hadn’t been in years and this was when the Phillies were actually good and in the playoffs. I had a great time at the game and remember texting a friend “I think it went well. He sort of had his arm around the back of my seat by the end of the game. I think that’s a good sign.” Turns out it was. And that one Phillies game turned into many Phillies games over the years and the beginning of our relationship.
As Matt so beautifully stated in our wedding toast, he compared our love for each other to our love for the Phillies. That we must be there for each other no matter what, much like we showed up to Phillies games in freezing cold or hot and humid, through good teams and games and bad teams and games. That dedication we have for the Phillies is the same we must have for each other as we enter our marriage.
Much like our love of the Phillies, our love for each other has weathered many storms. No matter what we have gone through, I am so lucky Chris has been by my side. You always hear the “through sickness and in health” during a wedding and hope you never have to worry about the sickness part. But we are dealing with that now and Chris has been so strong and loving during the hardest fight of my life.
Being a Phillies fan isn’t easy and neither is marriage. But much like fandom to our favorite sports teams, love can withstand the many challenges we are faced with if we remain dedicated and committed to each other.
I am so glad to have a loving and dedicated husband by my side…who shares a love of the Phillies too!
