Sometimes you just got to get up and go. After all, isn’t there some saying: yolo, you only live once.
The weather has been so nice I wanted to spend time outside today. The problem is the pollen has been awful. I came up with what I could do to spend time outside while trying to avoid the pollen.
There’s something so relaxing and beautiful about the ocean and shore, no matter what time of year you go. I so wanted to breath that fresh salt air in and just get away for a few hours. So I did.
The boys were off from school but Chris still had work. I was fortunate we had our sitter for a few hours this morning so next came figuring out who to bring. Reese was still sleeping when I left, Shane wanted to stay and play with the sitter who he doesn’t see every day due to school and Alice, well she’s 2 and trouble. So the plan was a brief outing for me and Chase to one of our favorite shore spots which is also not that far from us, Point Pleasant.
We spent almost an hour walking along the beach, looking for shells and sea glass. The sounds of the waves crashing, the sun shining down on the ocean water, the salt air, the cool sand on my toes reminded me why the shore is so relaxing and truly a happy place for me. I could forgot everything and just enjoy the beauty of the beach and ocean.
We then went to my other favorite thing to do there, the arcade. I always waste too much time and money at the arcade but there’s something so fun and enjoyable about the claw grab games and pop a shot. And Chase won one prize from the claw machine so we didn’t make out completely empty handed.
We ended with a stop for some ice cream at the Sweet Shop. While I know I need to watch what I eat, I treated myself to a cookie dough ice cream cone and the two of us ate our ice cream in the empty shop. Sometimes you have to treat yourself and enjoy things and that’s what I did.
And our little outing was complete.
We got down there before it go too crowded which made the outing even more enjoyable. Day trips to Point Pleasant was something I used to do with my mom and aunt and uncle and I’m glad to continue this with my kids, even if just 1 of the 5 today.
So sometimes it’s worth the impromptu decision to venture out and make your own outing. After all, you only live once. And sometimes the ocean calls and it’s worth answering the call.
