Last weekend I was in the hospital so I figured I’d share how I passed the time there for two days.
When you end up in the hospital there isn’t much to do but rest. While not nearly the extensive selection I have at home, at least I could watch TV to relax and pass the time.
While waiting in the ER to get admitted I was able to watch the Nets-Celtics Game 3. You all know I’m a big basketball fan so I enjoyed watching the close game and I got to see the now infamous ridiculous bright outfit Ben Simmons had on on the Nets bench which quickly became a popular meme after the game. He stood out every time they would show the Nets bench and was almost as fascinating as the game.
The next day I was lucky I was able to watch a Disney movie marathon. While watching these may seem like I’m home with the kids, I can watch Disney movies anytime. This marathon featured what I’ll consider two very underrated ones, Wreck It Ralph and Big Hero 6. I absolutely love Vanellope in Wreck it Ralph and her fearless, go get ‘‘em attitude. And in Big Hero 6, how can you not love Baymax? This movie also has a great soundtrack featuring one of my favorite bands, Fall Out Boy.
When I couldn’t sleep in the early morning I got sucked into several Law and Order SVU episodes. I hadn’t watched this in awhile and forgot how good a show it is. And these were the early Benson and Stabler episodes which are great.
Then came Monday morning and with few TV channels, my options were limited. So I ended up on the E network watching Keeping Up with the Kardashins. Is this show complete trash and a waste of time? Yes. But was it entertaining and did I get totally sucked into their drama and lives? Absolutely.
It’s kind of like a train wreck or accident you can’t turn away from. Their lifestyle is so ridiculous and obnoxious. For example in one episode, Kris, Corey (Kris’ boyfriend) and Kendall went to buy Ferraris. Not one Ferrari. One for each of them. Must be nice.
In a less obnoxious storyline, North (Kim and Kanye’s daughter) wanted a pet tarantula and Kim is terrified of spiders. Khloe wanted to help North and get her the pet while trying to ease Kim’s fear of spiders. By the end of the episode, Kim held a tarantula in her hand and let the handler put in on her head briefly. That’s impressive for someone afraid of them as I’ll admit tarantulas are um yeah not something I would want to touch either. North is not getting one as a pet but Kim did conquer her fear.
In another episode the entire family spent a few days together in Florida. While the rest of the family was outside at the pool, Scott (Kourtney’s ex-husband) was riding around on a kids toy car with his son in the house and crashed into a table, knocking over and breaking a lamp.
Here’s where the fun and comedy begins. Scott decides to clean up the broken lamp and put it in his car and act like nothing happened. Kris quickly noticed the lamp wasn’t there and starts asking everyone where it is.
Lampgate as Kris referred to it as quickly ensues as she searches every room for the lamp and questions everyone including Scott. Scott plays dumb, going as far as “Are you sure the lamp was there? I don’t remember seeing it there.”
Kris is getting mad as she senses someone knows and isn’t telling her. Finally Scott’s ten year old son Mason tells his dad he shouldn’t lie. Scott realizes his son is right and brings Mason with him to tell Kris the truth “so she will take it easier on me with Mason there.” Kris tells him she is more upset that he lied than that he broke the lamp. And the moral is lying is bad. Just the tell the truth and don’t cover things up.
So that’s just a little of the Kardashian life and episodes I got sucked into. As I said earlier, is it complete trash, yes. But it is oddly fascinating and entertaining, yes.
I can’t imagine that lifestyle and pettiness, but I don’t envy it. I don’t want cameras following me around all the time. I don’t want my child being flown to Paris for Fashion Week and rushed in and out of limos to get to shows. I don’t want the paparazzi taking pics of me and my family the minute we step out the car. I don’t care about what I wear, I just throw on clothes and won’t be judged.
Would I love to have a ton of money like them, sure? But do I want all the hassle and drama that comes with it? Absolutely not. Have any of the family’s relationships lasted? Nope. Do they have any sense of reality? Nope.
So for one day I kept up with the Kardashins. And that may have been enough for me. But since I need to take it easy and rest if I need mindless entertaining garbage to watch I may just have to make my way to Hulu to watch the new episodes of the show. I am kind of curious about Kourtney’s relationship with Travis Barker. Besides there’s nothing wrong with losing ourselves in other’s lives. Isn’t that what we do any time we watch a show or movie? So no I’m not afraid to admit I kept up with the Kardashins.
