There’s been a lot of bad, negative things going on in the world. It can be difficult to find good with all that we see in the news and in social media. And on top of all this, I’ve been battling cancer. Despite all this, I have found that there is still a lot of good out there and a lot of people who care.
I’ll start with the formula shortage which has been so sad to see. Ironically this is happening the one pregnancy I can’t breastfeed as I didn’t need formula for my other four kids. What has been good is all the free formula samples being posted in mom groups on Facebook, the offers of some moms to buy formula for others, moms posting pics of formula they see in stores when they are out. Moms helping other moms during this crazy time is such a beautiful thing to see.
The thoughtfulness and generosity of people during my cancer battle has been so touching and overwhelming. The messages, comments and cards have meant a lot to me. I’ve heard from elementary school friends, high school friends I haven’t seen in 20+ years (yes I’m that old!), Ewing rec teammates from different sports over the years, college track and xc teammates, former Mercer athletes I worked with. It makes me realize how lucky I am to cross paths with so many great people throughout my life.
A mother in Chase’s class organized a meal train for us for this month and we have been so appreciative of the donations from parents in the class. This same mother has brought over multiple meals for us including another delicious one last night. A neighbor has randomly brought us meals from Dolce and Clemente over the last few months. These things mean so much to us during a difficult time.
The cancer diagnosis was devastating but the kindness and thoughtfulness of so many people I have met throughout my life has been incredibly touching. There is good out there even during difficult times.
It’s the same with how moms have come together to help each other during this formula shortage. Kindness comes through even during hard times.
With recent news including several mass shootings this kindness and thoughtfulness has been even more refreshing to witness. With all the negative things in the news and world today it’s rare to notice the good, but I have seen it throughout this cancer battle. And it’s nice to know there is still good in this world no matter what is going on around us.
