One of the hardest things to do when you are recovering from surgery is to be patient. I hate having limitations but I know I need to take it easy.
As a workout fanatic this is particularly hard. I did full body workouts several days a week and it’s hard to not be able to do what I’m used to. But the past two days I have taken 20 minute walks. On the rainy Monday I came up with a barre type workout I was able to do using just my legs. This small activity felt like a step towards normalcy.
It’s not much, it’s not the 45 minute-1 hour intense workouts I’m used to but it’s a start a week after surgery. I’m learning to celebrate the small victories no matter how small, like taking a shower, as I recover. Small steps lead to bigger steps and eventually towards a return to normal.
And today I’ll celebrate three straight days of exercise. Doesn’t matter how intense or how short these walks and workouts have been. In this case slow and steady wins the race.
