As ladies we all know the challenge of bra shopping. The challenge is our bra size changes. When we get pregnant our boobs get bigger and we may need to size up. Then if you nurse boobs get even bigger and you wear nursing bras for a bit. Then when we are done nursing the boobs are somewhat back to normal size and usually a little less perky if you know what I mean. So you may need a size you weren’t yet for bras. And when you have nursed four children as I did, you have a lot of sag after each subsequent pregnancy!
There’s also all the types of bras to choose from. Do you want ones with wire or without? They’re strapless ones needed for certain dresses or shirts. There’s sports bras which fit totally different than regular bras. It’s really a pretty complicated thing to figure out…and once you figure it out your size changes again!
Bra shopping is hard enough under normal circumstances for women. Now try bra shopping after having a mastectomy with breast reconstruction. After graduating from the comfy surgical bras, you have to figure out what works for your foobs (fake boobs) as I call them.
My incisions are underneath each breast, which is generally where bras rest. The area on each side of the chest where drains were is also initially very sore and is where the bra sits on the side. So figuring out a comfortable post surgical bra is extremely hard.
If there is swelling from fluid in a breast, you want a tighter fitting bra but once that subsides you want looser so I‘ve tried several different bras now some of which have worked for a time and then I need to change again.
To further complicate my foob shopping is that one foob is well deflated right now. The expander needed to be removed due to the infection I had. And with an incision reopened, the bra line is sore again so I was back bra shopping again.
Bra shopping is never an easy experience. And bra shopping with foobs is even harder!
