After being rained out last week, it was back to the “pitch” this Saturday for two soccer games. After Thursday’s crazy and less than stellar practice for Shane’s team, they played their best game of the year and fought to a 3-3 tie. Shane also had his best game of the year, with two solid shots on goal and a good quarter as goalie. If my dad (who tends to be very critical when it comes to sports) says Shane had a good game, he must have played well.
I missed that game as Reese had dance at the time. In our second game of the day, Chase scored his first ever hat trick and dominated offensively. His team remained in first place in the standings with a 3-0 win.
It’s funny because I was worried how both boys would do today. Shane’s practice was so bad Thursday but they went out and played their best game of the season so far. Chase had two hours of fall ball last night, a makeup session from last week. I was hoping he wouldn’t be tired today from that and he wasn’t. Though he look a little gassed at the end of the game, he was also all over the field the whole game, sprinting past opponents to get the ball (and get three goals.)
A final bright spot to today’s soccer action was Shane’s reaction to giving up a goal for the first time. He didn’t let it bother him at all and was proud of how he did. Apparently the goal was a shot way over his head that nobody on the team would have stopped.
Shane struggles some with confidence in himself especially when he is away from Chase and he was very hesitant to play on a different team from his brother this year. But he has continued to improve every practice and game and gained a lot of confidence since the season started. So his lack of concern over giving up a goal today showed me his growth this soccer season and made me proud.
That along with a hat trick from his brother made this soccer mama have a very good day!
