The dreaded post surgical drains. They’re a pain when they’re in and yesterday I’ve learned they can be a pain when they’re out. Like an incredibly annoying shooting pain that decided to hit me as I was walking home with Chase and Shane from school. And this was with only one drain out and one still in.
I had a few pains when my mastectomy drains were removed but nothing like this. I had pain standing upright or walking around. This can be normal after the drains are removed and the nurse told me to take pain relievers. They didn’t help yesterday and I spent the evening and night hunched over holding under my breast as I walked or stood up when I wasn’t laying or sitting. To add to the discomfort, the Phillies collapsed after having a 4-0 lead and now the NLCS is tied 1-1. It was not a good night.
I was hoping the pain would go away when I woke up this morning but nope, it was still there when I stood up. Then I changed my clothes and put a new bra on and the pain was gone! I could stand upright and walk around and was so happy the pain had finally stopped. Who knew all I needed was a different bra? I would have changed sooner if that’s all I needed.
As I mentioned in a previous post, bra shopping is a pain. There’s so many types with different cups and wire or no wire and then there’s sport bras which are often just small, medium and large which are a lot easier to figure out than what actual cup size you are. And this year I had the challenge of post mastectomy bra shopping which was a lot of looking at bras and trying to determine if they would be comfortable. I did find a two pack of cami bras that worked well but I hadn’t worn in a bit and when I put one of those on today that’s what did the trick!
Of course I found these at a TJ Maxx so odds of finding them again are slim but hopefully I can find a few more to help. I did stop in a Ross this morning but they only had 1x and 2x and even though I had a boob job I’m still not that well endowed!
I’m hoping that the bra isn’t the only answer to this pain, but that it goes away regardless of what I wear. But for one day I’ve never been more relieved with how a bra fit than I was this morning!
