The Phillies magical run has been so fun because sports offers us an escape. It’s something we can invest ourselves in (that ultimately has no consequence on us) and something that gives us hope. It’s been fun to ride on every pitch during the World Series and playoffs, knowing how important these games were.
It’s been fun because the Phillies have far exceeded our expectations. They barely got into the playoffs and made it to a Game 6 of the World Series against the Astros who won 20, well 19 to be exact more regular season games than them? It was truly David vs Goliath.
It’s been fun because it’s something that brings us together. One topic all my coworkers talked about when I went back to the office this week is the Phillies. We all were talking about how tired we were because our sleep has been off from watching the games that start and end so late. I’ll get random go Phillies or congrats when I go somewhere in a Phillies hat or shirt. It brings people together.
It’s fun because we don’t get here often. The Phillies have only won one World Series in my lifetime (2008). The last time they made it was 13 years ago. It is special and it’s why it’s interesting and fun.
The Phillies showed heart. They were down multiple games prior to the World Series and came back to win. They had so many different players step up in different games to help the team win. They had fun. They gave us hope in a city that doesn’t win often but is filled with diehard fans who appreciate the effort and amazing run by this team.
I’m sad it didn’t end the way we wanted but the Phillies went much farther than I and most people expected. It gave us fans a lot to be excited for night after night during the playoffs and definitely lifted my mood over this magical run.
The 2022 Phillies showed us that you never know what can happen. Some days you’re hot, others you just don’t have it. But you try you best to bounce back. They weren’t intimidated by playing the most dominant team in baseball the past few seasons. They came together and gave us fans all something to cheer for and something to dance and celebrate, even if we were dancing on our own.
Thank you 2022 Phillies. What a fun magical ride you took us all on. Let’s hope for some magic again next season!
