Thank you to all veterans, to those currently serving and those who have served our country including both my grandfathers. Thank you for helping to keep our country safe for us to enjoy.
I wanted to share a little about both of my grandfathers and their service. My mom’s father or Pop as we called him served overseas in combat. He was actually mentioned in a book on World War II about his bravery as he ran across a mine field. That is so amazing and I’m so proud of his bravery during the war.
My dad’s father or Grandpa Cahill as we called him also served but not in combat, so in many ways he was lucky. But his job was to write home to loved ones when their soldiers did not make it. He was stationed over in Europe with this depressing task. I can’t imagine how difficult that had to be. He continued to serve in the reserve for almost all his life and earned a Lieutenant Colonel ranking.
Both my grandfathers died years ago so I don’t get to share about them often even though I loved both very much. While in very different capacities both my grandfathers served our country and I am very proud to be their granddaughter.
