Last night I took a dreaded trip to Chuck E Cheese. I have not been to one of these since I was in third grade, which I hate to admit was a very long time ago. All I pictured was kids running all around, those animated robots singing and just pure chaos. But much to my surprise that was not the case.
Shane’s soccer league was having their end of the year party here. Chris wasn’t feeling well and worked late so I got the fun task of taking him even though Chuck E Cheese was the last place I wanted to go after having immunotherapy (which I have once every 3 weeks) which wears me out for a day or two. I wasn’t sure if parents stay or we drop them off but with Target and other stores next to this location I could either walk around until the party was over or stay if that’s what most parents were doing. Chase and Reese came with me. (With five kids, we often take 2-3 places to make it easier for the other parent. Trust me when I say three kids seems easy when you have five!)
I learned most parents were staying so while Shane ate with his team, I bought a card so Chase and Reese could play. And we had fun! We did unlimited play for 30 minutes and played most of the games there. I even snuck in one game of pop a shot (I can’t help it!) and may have helped or played a few others. We went around some with Shane once he started playing but he followed and hung out with one of his teammates. I watched other parents join in the fun too. Why do you think Dave and Busters exists? Because adults still love these games. They are fun. It’s a great outlet for stress and something that as parents we can enjoy with our kids.
Now after an hour of this, I was completely spent and ready to go even though the kids weren’t, but prior to that I was actually having a good time, a really good time. Each time I asked Shane to leave or wrap up his reply was “soon.”
Eventually we left and I was exhausted but I had fun. I headed into Monday looking forward to the Eagles game that night. Little did I know Chuck E Cheese was going to be better, not just better, a lot better. Because the truth is we are all kids at heart.
