Warning: Please do not take offense to this post if you do elf on the shelf. There is a sarcastic tone to all of this.
Now that December has hit my boys came home and asked “why don’t we have elves? Everyone else in our class does.” I was ready to respond bc I freaking hate the elves! But I just said I don’t know.
I have five kids. You really expect me to come up with 24 different things for elves to do in addition to remembering everything else we have to do and get to. Nope, not happening.
It’s hard enough to do the whole Santa thing. Now I’m supposed to do the elf thing too. I feel like sneaking around like a ninja Christmas Eve (and prior to that sneaking presents in the house and finding time to wrap them) is hard enough, now I have to do that 20 some nights with this elf thing. Nope, not happening.
What kind of example do these elves set? They do bad things. My kids do enough naughty things around the house, we don’t need extra encouragement from elves magically appearing and doing the same.
The elf thing gets old after like a week. I don’t even do it and I get sick of seeing posts of the elves. I get they are funny but after a couple of days I’ve had enough.
So I’m sorry but the elves will not be coming to our home this Christmas (and doubtful anyone in the future). Maybe we just are into the Christmas spirit since we don’t participate in this “tradition” but we got enough to worry about and an elf on the shelf isn’t one of those worries!
