My husband and I have a laugh every Saturday morning. Like clockwork, a Peapod delivery truck comes a few houses down from us between 8:30-9:30. The delivery is for a couple with two young kids. As parents of five we are like two kids, they must have plenty of time to go grocery shopping. But that’s not why we laugh. We laugh because we joke how this family misses out on the excitement that is in store grocery shopping.
There are times I don’t feel like doing it and it’s inconvenient. But for the most part a trip to the grocery store is like a parent’s equivalent to heading to the club each week. And if you sneak a trip out with just yourself and no kids, it truly is like a party.
First off, I’m old enough now that the music played are my jams and I find myself wanting to start dancing and singing as I travel up and down the aisles.
Second, there’s the sights. Oh look a sale! Finding bargains is so exciting and fun. Even if you head into the store with a list, you end up attracted to things on sale or new products you spot. Finding the best prices is also like a game. My favorite part of checking out is to see how much money I saved this trip.
There’s the freedom of strolling up and down the aisles, planning out future meals and snacks for the family. What haven’t we had in awhile? Ooh this looks good to try for a meal. The possibilities are endless!
I’ll admit I’ve always loved going grocery shopping. It’s truly something my mom and bonded over through the years and still continued to do together even as I got older and moved out. It’s just an enjoyable experience.
Now clearly I need to get out more since I find the grocery store trips to be the most exciting thing I do weekly but it really is a good experience. And that’s why Chris and I laugh when we see the Peapod truck pull up each Saturday. If we ever need a break from the kids, what better break is there than a trip to the grocery store? With five kids we constantly need food so it’s productive and even going with two of the kids is a break.
There is nothing wrong with grocery delivery service and it can be very convenient. But there’s something so nice and relaxing about doing in person grocery shopping.
So I’ll see you at the club, the Price Plus club!
