Last year at Christmas there was really only two things I wanted. One was I wanted my health and the second thing was a healthy baby. I realize there really is nothing I want or need this Christmas as I was lucky enough to get these two wonderful presents this year.
I feel so lucky that I got the results I was hoping for following my mastectomy. I was declared cancer free. I still worry about my health and a recurrence but we got the best possible news following my surgery, a complete response to my treatment.
The second thing I wanted was a healthy baby boy. And I was able to get that too. Not only is Bryce healthy, he is such a happy little guy that he truly brings so much joy into our lives. His smile lights up a room and he is truly a miracle. My chemo baby is just perfect and pretty darn cute too!
Despite losing a lot this year: my hair, my breasts, my position at work, I got what I needed most which is my health and a second chance. In addition to a healthy baby I have four other amazing kids. Every year after having kids I have said I don’t need anything as the holiday becomes all about them. But this year I truly don’t need any presents as I got what I needed following my surgery and with the addition of Bryce.
I’m here and healthy even with some reconstruction complications and that’s all that I need. I am beyond grateful for where I am this year compared to last year at this time. It wasn’t easy and I sometimes get caught up in all that I lost and went through, but the reality is I’m standing here with a second chance and a healthy baby boy and that’s the only presents I need.
