Several days after I returned home from my surgery, we saw a beautiful rainbow after a storm and couldn’t help but hope it was a sign.
The morning of my oncology appointment last week, my friend Jane and I were sitting in my backyard. (Being outside has been so nice!) A cardinal flew down and landed on the fence of my yard and Jane and I turned to each other with a big smile. We both said it’s Mom, she’s here.
As we watched the beautiful bird hang out on the fence, it then flew over to another part of the fence. It stood there for a minute and then…it pooped. Jane and I looked at each other laughing and asked did you just see that bird poop?
My mom had a great sense of humor and was a funny person. After watching the cardinal poop then fly away I said to Jane, well that was definitely Mom. She had to make sure we got a laugh in.
So when you go through each day, find the small signs and positives along the way. That is what keeps us going. And spotting that cardinal that morning before my appointment was so needed given how nervous I was.
