Here I go with another song reference in my post title. But yes that’s right. I’m back. Back again. Back to work. Remote for now but so glad to be able to work again.
As I began working I realized how much I missed the job. I missed getting to share the stories of our athletes and athletic teams. I miss the research that goes into writing articles.
And after being out since late April there was a lot to catch up on. Let’s see there was all-region teams for softball, baseball, men’s lacrosse and men’s tennis. There was women’s tennis trip to nationals. There was men’s lacrosse coach leaving after a successful startup of the program. There was our women’s soccer coach retiring. There was all conference and region academic teams for the spring semester. There was graduation. Oh and my boss, the athletic director retired. And soccer will be starting soon.
To say it’s been busy is an understatement. But that’s good, I like busy. The hardest story was on my boss retiring. Not because of finding or organizing the content but because I so sad to see my boss go. He was a wonderful mentor and even better person.
His departure has also made my return even more odd as we have an interim supervisor who is retiring once we have a new athletic director. And this supervisor is a Dean of students not an athletic director. But we are up and running as best as we can.
The biggest challenge for me is that I’m missing the social connection of the workplace being remote but thankfully all of my job can be done from home as I recover and can’t drive. I’ve had a few calls with our associate athletic director to stay on top of the many changes going on in our department. And aside from that I’ve been writing and researching away.
It’s great to be back and have the “normalcy” of my job even if it’s remote while I start back and can’t drive. I’m so glad to get back to sharing stories of our student athletes and their success on and off the field.
