This weekend I walked through the park I used to walk in prior to my brain surgery. It was a 50 minute walk and was the first time I did a loop I would do on weekends.
Fortunately I live just shy of a mile from this park. I would only do this loop through the park on weekends, one because there’s more time that during the week with work and school and two getting there involves crossing two very busy roads near a high school. So my weekend route is this loop through the park, going in one entrance and coming out the other to head back to my house.
To be able to get back to this further walk and routine this weekend felt great. I think in large part because it felt normal. I’m not where I was before this all happened the end of April but I am so much stronger than I was at the start of the summer. Progress is progress and to be able to complete 50 minute walks now given I could barely walk to the end of my street with a cane in May is incredible.
I am enjoying the freedom I feel again and the somewhat normalcy of this walk and routine. It took time to get here and a lot of physical therapy and patience but I did it. And I just hope I can continue to get stronger and more endurance and stay healthy.
