Tuesday night was our first home basketball game of the season. It was also my first staff and individual meeting with the new boss. It was a busy day to say the least.
After the meetings with the new athletic director, I did a conditioning workout with the softball team. Then I walked through the bleachers and cleaned up any trash. Then set up the ticket table in the lobby. Then helped officials and visiting team find locker rooms. And helped get the scorer’s table clear of non-staff. And then could finally relax when the game started.
I spent the second half of the game standing with the new boss and sharing observations.
The visiting team was late so I got done later than expected and it was a long day. There was a lot of back and forth between the office and the gym. It was hectic, it was busy but I loved it. This is the stuff I love, game day. The chance to showcase our team and our facility. The chance to see your work in action.
Those who know me know I don’t like to sit around and I’m always on the go. With my fitness center and pool job I was always walking around. With the sports information job I mostly sit on my computer and spent hours writing articles and researching. So to have a day that involved a lot of running around was enjoyable.
I felt the same after working the Region Soccer Tournament. It’s busy and hectic but I enjoyed it so much.
It feels good to be back and doing what I love. I enjoy all the prep and behind the scenes work that goes into game day. And I enjoyed Game Day this week and look forward to more to come this basketball season.
